Project Background

Mr. Rickey is one of the University's most legendary alumni. As he changed the way that future generations have experienced professional baseball, Ohio Wesleyan today looks to his memory to help enhance the experiences of future generations of Battling Bishops. Named Remembering Mr. Rickey, the University's $22 million Campaign will have a profound impact on all members of the Ohio Wesleyan community.

This exciting effort was announced at Ohio Wesleyan's Commencement in 2004, coinciding with the 100th anniversary of Mr. Rickey's graduation from Ohio Wesleyan. At that event, Mr. Rickey's grandson, Branch Rickey III (OWU Class of 1967), and Jackie Robinson's daughter, Sharon (pictured at right), together addressed the graduating seniors.

The Campaign

Remembering Mr. Rickey is Ohio Wesleyan University's first-ever comprehensive campaign directed at addressing the needs of the University's athletic, recreation, physical education, and dance programs. To prepare for this endeavor, the University undertook a two-year assessment of its facilities. This exciting effort will have an impact on the entire Ohio Wesleyan and Delaware community.
